We now live in a world obsessed with connection and speed. We crave faster Wi-Fi, seamless video calls, instant access to information, and same day delivery. But lately, I’ve been thinking about the days when things moved a lot slower.
I remember when calling a friend meant walking down the street to the red telephone box, coins in hand (yes I'm showing my age). There was a deliberate pace to it. You had to be present; you had to wait your turn, there was always a queue. There was a physical path you had to walk to make that connection happen.
In our modern lives, we’ve gained speed, but I think we’ve lost that "deliberate path." We are constantly "connected" to the world, yet many of us feel more disconnected than ever...
Especially from one very important network, our Inner-Web.
What is Your Inner-Web?
While the world uses the Internet, your body uses an Inner-Web. This is a vast, fluid-filled network made of your Fascia and a newly discovered organ called the Interstitium. The Fascia is a tough, connective tissue that wraps around every muscle, organ, and nerve in your body, creating a continuous, three-dimensional web. It's often described as the "invisible suit" that holds you together.
When Your Inner-Web Gets "Stuck"
Just like the internet, your Inner-Web can get "slow" or "stuck." When we experience stress, injury, or even just bad habitual postures, the fluid in our Fascia and Interstitium can become stagnant. Think of it like a clogged filter or a buffering internet connection.
This stagnation can:
Slow down communication: Impeding the signals sent by your Vagus Nerve.
Create feelings of stiffness: Your tissues literally aren't gliding as freely.
Contribute to pain and fatigue: Waste products can build up in these areas.
Trap Unprocessed Emotions: Holding onto imprints of stress and old habits, not being able to release, to let go.
